Quoting Ryan, "Petty goss Mom nentis"
Which being translated is, "Pretty gross lentils Mom."

I, of course, would have to agree with him.

Unfortunately when I made lentil soup recently it turned out less than desirable. I was discouraged and left it sitting on the stovetop. Then I forgot about it until about four days later. Anyone need a science fair project on bacteria growth?

This blog is turning out pretty gross lately. Well, so is my life. Remember how Ryan was sitting on my lap this morning and then I realized he had diarrhea because it had leaked all over my pants. Unfortunate.

A Year Makes Quite a Difference

We recently took a picture of Ryan watering the garden that reminded us of a picture of him from last summer and made us realize how much he has grown up over the past year. These pictures were taken a little less than a year apart.

This was Ryan then...

This is Ryan now.

Grav·i·ty: The natural force of attraction exerted by a celestial body, such as Earth, upon objects at or near its surface, tending to draw them toward the center of the body. Gravity is also generally recognized as the force which keeps one's face clear of bodily fluids when expelling air forcibly from the mouth and nose in an explosive, spasmodic involuntary action resulting chiefly from irritation of the nasal mucous membrane.

Warning: Graphic and Disturbing Pictures of Disgusting Viscous Bodily Fluids

One great thing about kids is the fact that they help you learn all sorts of things that you otherwise would never have known. For example, without Ryan we may never have known (or even wondered for that matter) what it might look like if someone sneezed in a negative gravity chamber.

But, thanks to Ryan, we now know that it might look something like this...

Notice the lovely snot bridge from nostril to noggin in this profile shot.

How the heck did this happen?

Well, today was Ryan's last day of swimming lessons and I would have to report that I really was glad that we signed him up. The first day he cried THE ENTIRE time. He was begging to get out of the pool but I blame it on the fact that the first thing the teacher had us do was dunk our child under water. Yeah, he HATED that. The second day he cried MOST of the time but I finally was able to get him to kick at a toy and from then on we had a blast. We sang songs and learned a couple of new skills and he was a good sport. I just waited until the very END of class to dunk him so we could get out afterwards. Today I was able to dunk him 3 times without him crying so I'd say we made some progress. He sure is a great kicker. Oh, and we also got to go down the big waterslide since it was our last swim lesson day. (Yeah, he was pretty scared)

Baby Evie
Here are two pictures of my niece Evie. I know my sisters would be interested in knowing what she looks like so I just HAD to post these. Pretty cute eh? The second picture really looks like Rachelle to me. It will be fun to see her in person in August.

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day we took a walk with Denton and Joanne to the Provo Cemetary to put flowers on a few family gravesites. It was a pleasant day and we enjoyed looking around at some of the tombstones and thinking about the past.

Henriod is Rosalee's maiden name and Katie's middle name is after her mother - Naoma.

As we were walking out of the cemetary I looked down and noticed that Ryan was holding Katie's hand. It's fun to picture them being good friends as they grow up.

We went over to Denton and Joanne's house and seeing as how they had locked themselves out of their place we waited around for Denton to break in. He had to go through the window so it's unfortunate that he isn't some scrawny little shrimp. Luckily he didn't get stuck. We then played a few rounds of Monkey Golf (which is a pretty darn decent game - we should try to get all our friends hooked on it) and then went out to Costa Vida for one last hurrah with Denton before he moved out to D.C. for a summer internship. We'll SURE be missing him.

Did I mention that she giggles now?

Ryan has been riding his bike all over the house this morning. When he crashed I went over and noticed this pile of stuff that had fallen out of his trunk.

INVENTORY:
5 strawberries
2 measuring cups (THAT's where those were!)
1 leaf
1 piece of maroon paper
1 large stick
1 fisher price wheelchair
1 fisher price table w/ umbrella

I'm glad he's enjoying that feature on his new bike. Posted by Picasa

Growing up already

This entry is really for Jamie who keeps asking how Katie and Clark compare in size. I took a comparison shot when we were outside yesterday. She is somewhere in the 12 lb range and Clark was 5 lbs 14 oz yesterday so she is quite literally twice his size. She still looks little, but just not next to Clark. (I realize it's not a flattering picture - you get the point of the size difference though. Here are two other pictures that are more flattering for Katie. There, I'm still a good mom.)

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY RYAN!

I wanted so badly to wake Ryan up singing Happy Birthday, so when I woke up before him I tiptoed out of the room to make him some green eggs and toast. I had just warmed up the pan when he came strolling out into the kitchen. Darn! I had to take him back in the bedroom and have Derek read him a story or two while I brought him a "birthday surprise". He was a good sport and loved blowing out the candles.

We read him his cards from Grandma and Grandpa and some of his uncles and aunts while he ate. Grandma sent him 3 dollars - lucky!!

He opened up the two presents from Grandma and Grandpa (snakes, lizards, and frogs, and some "magic" towels that grow in water). He is pretty good about being grateful for presents and said, "Thank you grandma" - unfortunately she wasn't there to hear him.

After the breakfast in bed we gathered up the lizards, frogs, and snakes and put them in a container for him to carry around. Then we told him he had one more present in the living room. Whenever we asked him what he wanted for his birthday he'd say, "cake and bike". We got him a new little tricycle that is a great size for him. He doesn't quite know how to use the pedals, but he'll get it soon enough. He walked out and laughed a little and then the first thing he did was to open up the little storage "trunk" on the back of the bike and put all of his lizards and snakes and frogs inside. He rode that bike all over the neighborhood today (thanks to Derek's patience).

I made him some fudge (chocolate cake) and put some fruit through my champion juicer and made him ice cream. The fudge wasn't ready so he ended up just eating ice cream and didn't know the difference. Tomorrow though, we'll eat the "cake".

I love this kid! Posted by Picasa
