So, I'm a total novice when it comes to sewing, but I really enjoy the end product. Here are two little sewing projects I finished recently.

First, is a little baby sling for Katie's dolls. I have 4 baby carriers myself and I thought it might be fun for Katie to have one for her doll since she'll see me carrying around our new baby. I used some scrap material (thanks Gina) and whipped it up in less than an hour. I think it turned out pretty cute.

The second is a waterproof pad. The only reason I post this is because I felt good about recycling things instead of throwing them away. Ryan had a waterproof mattress cover that was getting REALLY torn up from washing. The vinyl was split all the way across so that it wasn't really usable anymore on his bed. Instead of throwing it out, I cut a section that didn't have any splits in it and sewed it together with an extra baby blanket. Voila - a new mattress cover. It's actually a very useful size so I'm pretty happy with it.
I have 4 or 5 other projects "in the making." I am definitely not quick with sewing. I can't leave my sewing machine out in an accessible place. That means that I have to get everything out and put it all away each time I work on something, so small 15 minute sessions are incredibly rare. I only sew when I have a good hour or so to work on the project, and I don't have a good hour or so available very often. BUT, it's fun to have things to look forward to.

I agree Jen! With having to get it all out and put it all away, sewing is sometimes more of a hassel than an enjoyable time. However, when I do sew I love it. It feels good. Although, I don't know how to sew anything other than quilts, and now hooter hiders! :) That's right, it's my new favorite baby shower gift to give. Fun materials and low cost make this an ideal gift to give, at least to those I know will be nursing. :) If only I could narrow down the fabrics to choose one for myself. It's so easy to give things away but when I have to keep something I fear I'll be tired of it in 2 weeks and regret ever making it in the first place. :) What a fun idea, a sling. Did you just make the pattern yourself, sized down from one you have? Incredible. I am just delighted when people can do that. I have a really hard time doing that and most of the time my projects do NOT turn out unless I have a pattern. :)
Lovey ou, V
I found a tutorial online and used that to make the doll sling. I had to size it to Katie, but it was pretty simple.
Not only is that so cute - but it looks like it fits her! I wish I could have seen the back of it. Very cute pictures Jenny.
That's awesome Jenny! I wish I could sew! I almost typed, "I wish I was a sewer!" imadork!
Hey, I recognize that fabric! It looks cute. And kudos on the mattress cover, that was a great idea.
You are brilliant! Great ideas, and those look like sewing projects that I might be able to tackle.
Ruby would love that baby sling! Not sure I would ever get around to it...still have Henry's baby quilt waiting for me. I'm impressed by your skills.
Way to go Jenny. You need to mass market those slings...they are dang cute!
