Settle a small dispute
I cannot find much help on the internet so can you please fill in the blank for me. Which lyric do you remember as a child for the Mr. Potato Head jingle?
"Mr. Potato Head,
and his bucket o' _____.
Buckets of fun for everyone."
Derek and I each recall something different and I think we bet a spicy chicken sandwich on what the actual word was. Your input would be appreciated.
On a side note: Katie took her first step last week. Today she did it again and stayed up and balanced afterwards. Making progress!

I definitely remember it being "Mr. Potato Head and his bucket o' parts."
The anonymity of that last comment disqualifies the answer. Please identify yourself if you want to be included in the survey. :)
Haha! It was probably Derek trying to defend his answer...
I definitely don't remember that jingle at all, so I can't help. I am sorry!
Chris says it was "parts". I don't remember. Can Chris vote?
Absolutely. Thanks for vote #1 Chris.
Neither Dad nor I have ever heard that jingle. Come up with another one....we wanna win!
I've never heard the jingle, but I vote for "a bucket of sour cream."
I wanna know what your guesses were.
OK--here's an answer to this question direct from the experts at mrpotatohead.net...
http://www.mrpotatohead.net/1980/19804.htm
it's definitely and his bucket o' "parts"...says so right on the bucket!
Who won? What were your guesses? Do tell!
J
I have not conceded yet. Only Chris remembers it as "parts" and Ryan remembers it as "fun". We are now tied yet again. I do realize that the side of the box said "bucket o' parts" but we are speaking exclusively of the jingle. Thank you Ryan for your vote. (and thanks Dad for the humor!)
Where are Gina and Jamie on this one? I thought for sure I could count on them!
I feel we will have to settle this some other way. THe sample size is just not strong enough statistically. :)
I'm sorry--my post should have read as follows:
I asked the EXPERTS at mrpotatohead.com and within 30 minutes had about 25 replies that it for sure was "buckets o' parts" and they gave me the photographic link as proof.
You have 25 votes for "parts" from the group of spud maniacs (they're die-hards, I tell you!).
And it seems silly that they'd use one slogan for the jingle, and a different one for the bucket...wouldn't you want them to match to really get it stuck in someone's head??
I'm voting for "parts."
And I'm sticking to it.
;P
Fallingsquirrels seems to think it is "bucket-o-fun." Personally, I have no recollection. And the internet didn't seem to be much help for me (except for fallingsquirrels, who remembers FUN).

what if the answer is "both"?
As in--it was one word for a few months & then they changed the campaign to the other...
chicken sandwiches all around!
Now THAT would be nice :)
I just wish we could find the commercial somewhere. I swear it was on one of our recorded-from-TV videos like Popples or something. Whatever happened to those videos anyway? We probably watched them until they croaked I guess. *sigh*
Here's some interesting Potato-Lore
Mr. Potato Head was the first toy EVER to have it's own commercial!
The Potato that plays "Mr. Potato Head" was originally played with a REAL potato that kids would supply themselves, using the cranial accessories they got out of cereal boxes. That was later replaced (when Hasbro took over) by a styrofoam "potato" and finally, the plastic that we all know and love.
There is a line of Potato Heads that came out last year titled "Darth Tater" to follow the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
But I never found the 1984 ad. Only one from I think 1970. (http://tesla.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/tuner.php?channel=561&format=tv&theme=guide)
I'm going to keep researching.
Jimmy
And the last part of the URL is
?channel=561&format=tv&theme=guide
don't know why it got cut off...
Wow, I might become a Mr. Potato Head enthusiast! There were Mr. Potato Head Bird, Bug, and Fish toys release in the 70s, but as they weren't very popular, not many exist. But I really want one...there's one on Ebay for 10 bucks...if anyone loves me...and apparently, in 1985, there were 4 votes for Mr. Potato Head in the Mayoral election in Boise, Idaho.
OK, I'm done until I find a clip of that commercial...
Fun Jimmy. I'll give YOU a spicy chicken if you come up with that commercial somewhere!
the only commercials I can find are for way before 1970 (the one with real potatoes) and way after 1970 (the one with the Mr Potato Head Family--which is the ONLY Mr Potato Head Jingle I remember).
Jimmy, I'll be sure and get you the new Sweetheart Spud that's coming out next week.
And in MY dealings with the spud enthusiasts, I've even seen the upcoming Transformers Potato Head to go with the movie.
It's all who you know in this world...
I remember it as "...and his bucket of parts." As a kid of course I would always sing along with it and say "... and his bucket of farts."
another vote for the parts.
I actually believe that settles it.
Nobody rhymes fun with farts. Ipso facto, parts.
It looks like the "parts" have it... and I have a spicy chicken sandwich. Sorry darling, but I am claiming victory.
You know, it's hilarious that Caleb's comment convinced me as well. You put a name association with it like that and I'm convinced. *sigh*
I should seriously learn a lesson on gambling. I have won like 2 out of 15 of the times we have bet a spicy chicken on things like that. Doh!
but does Derek at least share a bite?
I love that story.
Who needs the internet when you have Caleb around?
