A darn good day

First off, it's Jimmy's 19th birthday. Happy Birthday James.

Second, Derek and I finally got to do a session at the Newport Beach Temple. It's one of the small temples and it was our first time there. It was VERY beautiful (as could be expected) and it was a long overdue excursion for us. Our kids didn't even terrorize the sitters! It was pretty funny when we got home because Katie was so giddy to see us. I've never seen her grin from ear to ear like that. It was nice to leave and have her so happy for us to be home.

Lastly, and most importantly, we found out that Derek R. Bayles, Esq. has officially passed the California BAR exam! He deserves to be congratulated because that was one horrific test folks! Glad to have it behind us, and I'm really proud of him. We dragged the kids out for ice cream to celebrate even though it was 9:30 and Ryan was telling me that he was really tired. Oh well, sleep can wait while we celebrate!

CONGRATULATIONS DEREK! We know Jenny talks about how hard that test was for you.....but we knew you would pass it - stress or no stress. You are determined, a hard worker and BRILLIANT. CONGRATULATIONS - and we want to celebrate when you come down for Thanksgiving with Mango or pineapple ice cream! YUM! Okay, then....maybe some Dreyers Hot Fudge Sundaes???

Congratulations Derek!! I don't know what percentage of attorneys pass the first time, but I know it's not high. Just another day for you though. We're proud of you.

Congrats Derek! I was just talking to my visiting teachee yesterday about you (her husband is in law school right now) and I was wondering when you'd receive your results. Glad it turned out great.

Good Work. I knew you were going to pass.

Congrats to all of you!

The best part of the story is how you had to drag Ryan out for ice cream when he'd rather be sleeping!

Gina - let's get some perspective here. The best part of the story is that he doesn't have to take the BAR again in February!!! I think that he would've prefered to switch careers rather than to retake the darn thing. I quite agree.

Way to go, Derek! None of us really had any doubts that you'd pass it - but it must be such a relief to finally know.

How are you liking your job, anyway?

Okay, maybe I should have said the funniest part of the story...you are right, the best part is no more tests. Do lawyers ever have to re-test once they've passed?

Lawyers sometimes have to re-take the state BAR exam when they move to a different state. I believe that California is widely accepted as the most difficult and many states don't make you take their exam if you've passed in California. That's at least the impression that I have.

And Jamie, the job is going pretty well. It's mentally draining, but has it's good sides too and we have more and more faith in this particular firm as time progresses. Derek can see that with time it would probably become a pretty nice career.
